Avoid strenuous exercise in the hours immediately following your Botox treatment, as this may promote bruising. Also, refrain from lying down or putting your head below the waist for at least four hours post-procedure.

How Do I Minimize Bruising Risk?

Bruising after Botox is a potential side effect that can be mitigated by choosing your practitioner wisely. In the hands of an inexperienced provider, bruises-- especially around the eyes where the skin is thinner-- are common. Patients can minimize this risk by avoiding the following supplements for at least 3 days before the treatment: Aspirin, NSAIDs (including Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve), Vitamin E, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Ginseng, Ginger, Gingko Biloba, Green Tea, and alcohol. If bruising does occur, topical arnica cream will speed recovery, and concealers are great for temporary camouflage.

What Are The Possible Risks And Side Effects?

Minor side effects associated with Botox injections include: headache and slight bruising and swelling at the injection site. Headaches typically only occur after the first treatment and not on subsequent treatments. These will subside within a few days. Asymmetry or a drooping eyelid indicates that the neuromodulator migrated into surrounding muscles. This side effect may take several weeks to improve as the Botox gradually wears off.
