Which Chemical Peel is Right for You?

Chemical peels are one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate your complexion, helping with everything from fine lines to stubborn acne scars. At Dallas Dermatology Partners, we offer a variety of chemical peel treatments tailored to your specific skin concerns, including the popular Glycolic Peel, VI Peel, and Melanage Peel for melasma.

But with so many options, how do you know which peel is right for you? Let’s dive into the details so you can make the best choice for your skin’s unique needs.

What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are a non-invasive skincare treatment designed to exfoliate the skin, encouraging cell turnover and revealing smoother, clearer skin underneath. Depending on the depth of the peel, they can address concerns such as fine lines, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and acne. Chemical peels are categorized into three main types:

  • Superficial Peels: This grade of peel targets the outermost layer of the skin. It is ideal for mild discoloration or rough texture.
  • Medium Peels: Penetrating deeper layers of the skin, medium peels address more significant concerns like wrinkles or acne scars.
  • Deep Peels: Deep peels reach the deepest layers. They can treat severe skin imperfections but require more recovery time.

Glycolic Peel

The Glycolic Peel is a superficial peel that uses glycolic acid, a mild alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface. This peel is excellent for those with sensitive skin looking to brighten their complexion, reduce fine lines, and minimize pores. With little to no downtime, it’s perfect for anyone looking for a quick skin refresh. If you want smoother skin with a youthful glow, the Glycolic Peel may be the right choice for you.

VI Peel

For those dealing with more prominent skin concerns, such as acne scars, uneven tone, or signs of aging, the VI Peel is a great medium-depth option. Combining TCA, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, and vitamin C, the VI Peel penetrates the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and renew the skin’s texture and tone. It’s suitable for all skin types and offers noticeable results with minimal downtime. Peeling typically starts a few days after the treatment, revealing clearer, smoother skin beneath.

Melanage Peel for Melasma

Melasma, a condition characterized by dark patches on the skin, can be difficult to treat. However, the Melanage Peel is one of the few effective treatments for this condition. This peel is specifically formulated to lighten melasma and address hyperpigmentation issues. Over time, it lightens and brightens the skin, making it an excellent option for those who have struggled with melasma or other forms of discoloration. The Melanage Peel can provide long-term improvement in skin tone and clarity.

How to Choose the Right Peel

Choosing the right peel depends on your skin type, concerns, and desired results. For mild concerns, such as dullness or minor texture issues, the Glycolic Peel is ideal. If you’re looking to treat deeper concerns like acne scars or wrinkles, the VI Peel offers more targeted results. For those with melasma, the Melanage Peel is one of the most effective treatments available.

Consulting with a professional is the best way to determine which chemical peel is right for your skin. The specialists at Dallas Dermatology Partners will assess your skin and guide you toward the right treatment for your specific needs and treatment goals.

Glow Into the Holidays with SKINVIVE™

The colder months can leave skin looking dry and dull, but there’s a solution that can help you maintain a radiant glow even in the winter. SKINVIVE™ is an injectable dermal filler that changes the appearance of your skin. It leverages hyaluronic acid to increase hydration in your skin and improve uneven texture. It’s the perfect cosmetic treatment to try before the holidays. Give yourself the gift of glow this holiday season at Dallas Dermatology Partners.

What is SKINVIVE™?

SKINVIVE™ is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable designed to improve skin smoothness and hydration. It is injected superficially into the outer layer of your skin, also known as your epidermis, which then diffuses into an even layer.
Unlike traditional fillers, which add volume, SKINVIVE™ focuses on boosting hydration within the skin, creating a subtle, radiant glow that lasts up to nine months. Think of it as a “skin booster” that nourishes from within, leaving your skin looking refreshed, smooth, and healthy.
This treatment is especially popular for those looking to revitalize their skin before the holidays. Whether you’re preparing for family gatherings, office parties, or festive events, SKINVIVE™ ensures you’ll look radiant throughout the busy season.

Why SKINVIVE™ is Perfect for a Holiday Glow

The winter months can wreak havoc on your skin. Cold air, dry indoor heat, and less sunlight can lead to dry, dull, and tired-looking skin. That’s where SKINVIVE™ shines.

The Benefits of SKINVIVE™ for Dull, Dry Skin

If your skin is starting to feel the effects of the winter season, here are the top benefits SKINVIVE™ offers:

  • Boosts hydration: SKINVIVE™ deeply hydrates the skin, helping to combat dryness caused by dry winter air.
  • Stimulates collagen production: SKINVIVE™ injections improve skin elasticity while reducing the appearance of fine lines.
  • Delivers a lasting glow: SKINVIVE™ provides a radiant glow that lasts for up to six months, making it ideal for those wanting to look their best all season long.
  • Non-invasive with no downtime: You can get glowing skin without worrying about recovery time.

Because it’s not a traditional filler, SKINVIVE™ doesn’t dramatically change your appearance. Instead, it enhances your natural beauty by providing a subtle glow while smoothing fine lines and rough texture.

How Does SKINVIVE™ Work?

SKINVIVE™ works on the surface of the skin to boost hydration. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body known for its ability to retain water, keeping your skin plump and hydrated. When injected into the skin in microdroplets, SKINVIVE™ gradually improves skin texture and smoothness, resulting in a glowing, refreshed appearance.

SKINVIVE™ treatments are quick, making it easy to fit into your busy holiday schedule. With no downtime, you can book your treatment and still be ready to go out and enjoy the holidays.

How Often Are Laser Resurfacing Treatments Needed?

Laser resurfacing is one of the safest non-surgical treatments to stave off premature signs of aging and counteract the effects of UV damage. Whether you’re having a mini laser treatment with minimal to no downtime, or a deeper resurfacing that requires a recovery period, these procedures do more than improve the appearance of your skin. Laser resurfacing targets underlying support structures for gradual improvements in skin elasticity and firmness.

The frequency of laser resurfacing treatments will depend on the type of device being used and the goal of the procedure. For example, patients with extensive sun damage may opt for a more aggressive HALO laser treatment that targets multiple skin concerns in one go. Deeper resurfacing procedures will require more downtime, but the results will last longer.

Deeper Resurfacing Laser Treatments

For example, a laser resurfacing treatment with the BBL Halo laser, which uses ablative and non-ablative energy, may only be necessary every one to three years. This dual-wavelength device addresses discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, rough texture, blotchy skin, and other signs of photo-aging. Impressive results are visible after one session and continue to improve for 6 months as new collagen is generated in the skin.

Ablative wavelengths penetrate deeper layers of the skin, inducing the natural healing response. Non-ablative energy targets textural imbalances, enlarged pores, and uneven tone. Halo’s state-of-the-art hybrid technology means patients need fewer treatments to see dramatic improvements.

before and after halo laser

Milder Laser Treatments & Prejuvenation

Laser resurfacing with BBL (Broad Band Light) therapy is a less aggressive way to correct photo-damaged skin on a cellular level. The BBL HERO gently heats the upper layers of the epidermis to lighten hyperpigmentation and minimize redness and textural irregularities. Improvements in skin tone, clarity, and texture are evident in two to three weeks after a BBL HERO treatment. However, since this is milder phototherapy, two to three sessions are needed to see optimal results. The intervals between treatments are usually four to six weeks.

Younger patients in their 20s and 30s looking to prevent wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin are increasingly turning to laser treatments as a preventative measure. In the world of dermatology, it’s known as prejuvenation. In this context, your dermatologist may recommend a milder laser treatment like the mini HALO once every 3-4 months to help trigger collagen production and activate anti-aging genes. Quarterly laser treatments will maintain skin health, elasticity, and volume.

In terms of skin health and appearance, it’s better to prevent wrinkles and sun spots from developing rather than attempting to turn back the clock.
The frequency of laser resurfacing treatments needed will ultimately depend on your skin type, the kind of laser technology used, and whether it’s done to delay signs of aging or restore sun-damaged skin.

Does PRP for Hair Loss Work?

Yes, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is effective for treating hair loss. A 2015 placebo-controlled trial showed that PRP has positive therapeutic effects on androgenic alopecia without major complications or side effects. PRP treatment encourages hair growth by supporting cellular maturation and proliferation, but it works best on those with hormone-related baldness–also known as male or female pattern hair loss.

Studies also indicate that PRP for hair loss is most effective when combined with oral, low-dose minoxidil tablets–a vasodilator that increases blood flow to hair follicles.

Who is a candidate for PRP hair loss therapy?

Ideal candidates for hair regrowth treatment with PRP injections are patients who have begun to experience mild to moderate male or female pattern hair loss, or androgenic alopecia, within the last few years. Here in our Dallas practice, we have found that the sooner our patients seek treatment after hair loss, the better the results. In women, hormone-related hair loss is usually characterized by thinning hair at the top of the scalp that resembles a wide part. In men, this type of alopecia begins at the hairline and gradually recedes to form an “M” shape.

How does PRP hair loss treatment work?

Plasma is rich in growth factors that signal cells to function properly. When injected under the scalp, PRP augments the body’s natural repair system, promoting the growth and differentiation of healthy tissue and blood cells. Recent studies have shown that PRP injections in patients with hormone-related baldness have seen improvements in hair count, thickness, and the follicular growth phase.

How is the procedure performed?

A small blood sample is taken from the patient and placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. Next, the skin is numbed with a topical cream before the PRP is injected with micro-needles under the scalp. The entire treatment lasts 45 minutes to an hour. Temporary swelling and tenderness are common side effects, but patients can immediately resume normal activities.

How long for hair regrowth after PRP?

Most patients will start to notice improvements after two or three months. Less hair shedding is the first sign as the follicle cells are restored and primed for regrowth. To realize the full benefit of this cutting-edge hair loss treatment, patients will be prescribed oral minoxidil and require multiple sessions. It generally takes six months from the initial PRP hair treatment to see measurable results. Follow-up PRP treatments may be recommended twice a year to maintain optimal results.

Does Dysport Help with Crepey Skin?

Dysport, a cosmetic injectable in the same family as Botox, does not help with crepey skin. However, it can help revitalize your appearance in other ways and address other signs of aging that often appear alongside crepey skin. You can use other solutions for crepey skin and still use Dysport to address certain signs of aging.

Aging happens to everyone, however, there are effective options for rejuvenating your skin and restoring a younger look. Our dermatologists often recommend Dysport in Dallas for patients who are dissatisfied with the signs of aging. Keep reading to find out how Dysport can be used and what you can do instead to address crepey skin.

So, What Is Dysport and How Can It Address the Signs of Aging?

Dysport is one of the newest treatments that uses botulinum toxin, like Botox. And, like Botox, it works by relaxing the muscles — when the muscles don’t contract, wrinkles can’t form.

Although Dysport works much like Botox does, it’s not quite the same. Because Dysport’s botulinum toxin Type A molecules are smaller than the Type A molecules in Botox, it takes effect faster and spreads out more.

In short, Dysport is a little more effective at easing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Patients can generally expect their Dysport results to last about three to four months, which is comparable to Botox. However, as always, individual results can vary based on your unique skin type and skincare practices.

How Can Dysport Help the Eye Area?

The eye area is a popular source of frustration. As you grow older, you naturally begin to develop fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes, also known as crinkly under eye skin. While Dysport won’t address crepey skin, it can be an excellent choice for improving the look of aging around the eyes.

Dysport can be used to address crow’s feet and under eye wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful appearance. However, it’s important to note— those who are prone to having eye bags or have naturally puffy eyes should not get Dysport injections to treat fine lines under the eyes (using it to address crow’s feet is still okay).

Additionally, for those who have one eye that appears larger than the other, Dysport injections can help to achieve a more balanced, proportional look.

How Can Dysport Improve the Mouth Area?

Although Dysport can be used to address smile lines, lip lines, and other fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth area, it’s important to understand that it is not effective as other treatments and therefore would not necessarily be the first treatment we’d recommend for treating those areas.

Why? Because these treatments are neuromodulators that block nerve impulses, allowing the muscles to relax and therefore causing the skin above the muscle to soften and smooth out. So, you can run the risk of softening the muscles activated while smiling and can end up altering the expression and/or dragging the face down. The true problem that needs to be addressed is volume loss, which is better treated with other types of treatments/solutions.

All of that being said, in some use cases Dysport can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth area. As with any treatment, we recommend speaking with a certified dermatologist like any of ours here at Dallas Dermatology to discuss what treatments would best suit your needs.

What Treatments Can Address Crepey Skin?

As helpful as Dysport is for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, crepey skin on the neck or face may require treatments like Sculptra, a dermal filler designed specifically for addressing volume loss.

Sculptra helps plump up and support skin that has become thinner and more delicate due to the aging process. In addition, Sculptra stimulates the production of new collagen fibers for longer-lasting results.

However, if you’re not interested in dermal fillers, there are other options you can take like microneedling and red-light therapy, just to name a few basics. To find out what treatments would be best for your specific needs, it’s best to consult a dermatologist.

Ready to Banish the Signs of Aging?

At Dallas Dermatology Partners, our highly experienced clinicians use innovative techniques to help our patients achieve a younger look and feel rejuvenated.

We’ll assess your skin concerns and review your health history to determine if Dysport could be the right option for you. We’re also pleased to offer Botox in Dallas to patients who wish to address wrinkles, as well as Sculptra for crepey skin. Contact us today to schedule your Dallas dermatology appointment.

How To Treat Post-Acne Marks

Roughly 90 percent of people experience acne breakouts as adolescents or adults. The majority of these blemishes heal without dark spots or scarring. But some acne can result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), where the body produces excess melanin, causing patches of skin that appear brown, pink, or red.

If you are struggling with post-acne marks and discoloration, there are a variety of non-invasive treatments that can fade stubborn pigmentation and improve texture. At Dallas Dermatology Partners, we offer quick, effective treatments that target everything from PIH to acne scarring.

Laser Resurfacing & Broadband Light (BBL)

Several cutting-edge laser and broadband light treatments target PIH and moderate scarring from breakouts. These devices are precisely calibrated to reduce excess pigment and stimulate collagen production. The primary advantage of laser resurfacing for post-acne marks is the excellent results with minimal downtime.

Correcting acne scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is never a one size fits all approach. Our practice utilizes the following devices to address post-breakout skin imperfections.

Halo Laser: This fractional hybrid laser delivers impressive results with fewer treatments. Safe for most skin types, the Halo combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to banish discoloration and trigger collagen production.

Contour TRL: Those with moderate acne scarring may benefit from this ablative Erbium laser treatment. The tunable resurfacing laser removes the outermost damaged layer of skin. It can also be adjusted for a shallower treatment, known as a micro laser peel.

BBL Hero: BBL Hero harnesses the power of broadband light to treat dark spots and scarring caused by acne. One of the benefits of BBL Hero is that it’s four times faster and three times more powerful than standard IPL.

Moxi Laser: The Sciton Moxi is one of the only lasers that can safely correct post-inflammatory pigmentation in patients with darker skin tones. Moxi oX5 delivers non-ablative laser energy below the epidermis to eliminate discoloration and smooth textural problems.

BBL Photofacial: This phototherapy can be fine-tuned to reverse the negative cell changes triggered by post-acne inflammation. The treatment is gentle and requires zero downtime. Most patients will need a series of 3-5 sessions.

Genius RF Micronedling: This combines fractional radiofrequency energy with microneedling to optimize skin tightening with rejuvenating results. This is effective for acne scars and post acne marks. Most patients will benefit from a series of 3 treatments each one month apart.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are acid solutions that loosen cells that form the “glue” within the skin. This exfoliation process improves the appearance of shallow scars and dark spots left from breakouts. Chemical peels are customized to accommodate specific concerns, skin tone, and sensitivity. For example, our dermatologists may recommend a glycolic acid or a VI peel to correct acne-related imperfections and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

EmSculpt NEO: The Perfect Companion for Your Ozempic Weight Loss Journey

The journey to achieving a healthier, more confident you often involves balancing weight loss with maintaining muscle mass. If you’re taking Ozempic or similar medications like Wegovy, you may have heard about the potential for muscle loss during rapid fat reduction. This is where EmSculpt NEO in Dallas steps in—a revolutionary treatment designed to help patients maintain and build muscle while reducing fat.

What is EmSculpt NEO?

EmSculpt NEO is a cutting-edge body contouring treatment that combines High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy with radiofrequency (RF) energy. HIFEM induces supramaximal muscle contractions, the equivalent of performing thousands of crunches or squats in just one session. RF energy simultaneously reduces fat by heating and eliminating fat cells. This dual-action approach allows patients to enhance muscle tone and decrease fat, making it an ideal treatment for individuals on weight-loss medications like Ozempic.

By incorporating EmSculpt NEO into your regimen, you can achieve a sculpted, defined look that complements your weight-loss efforts, all while improving overall body composition.

Why Muscle Maintenance Matters During Weight Loss

Rapid weight loss with GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic can sometimes result in the unintended consequence of muscle loss. While shedding fat is a primary goal, losing muscle can negatively impact your:

  • Metabolism: Muscle tissue is metabolically active and helps burn calories even at rest. Losing muscle may reduce metabolic efficiency.
  • Strength and Energy: Muscle loss can lead to diminished physical strength and endurance, making daily activities more challenging.
  • Aesthetic Goals: Muscle contributes to a toned and defined appearance, which many patients strive for as part of their transformation.

Preserving muscle mass during weight loss is essential not only for maintaining a balanced physique but also for supporting long-term health and wellness.

How EmSculpt NEO Complements Ozempic Use

While Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications work by controlling appetite and promoting fat loss, they don’t directly address muscle maintenance. EmSculpt NEO fills this gap by stimulating muscle growth and fat reduction in a single, non-invasive treatment.

  • Muscle Growth: HIFEM technology targets muscles, forcing contractions that are more intense than typical exercise, helping to build lean muscle mass.
  • Fat Reduction: The RF energy in EmSculpt NEO helps eliminate stubborn fat in problem areas, ensuring a balanced and toned outcome.
  • Improved Body Composition: With enhanced muscle tone and reduced fat, patients can achieve a physique that reflects the hard work of their weight-loss journey.

How To Get A Snatched Jawline With Injectables

Achieving a snatched, defined jawline is now more accessible than ever thanks to advanced injectable treatments like jawline filler and Masseter Botox. At Dallas Dermatology Partners, we specialize in personalized treatments that enhance jawline contour and symmetry for both men and women, helping you attain a look that complements your facial structure and aesthetic goals.

If you’re interested in having that snatched jawline look, there are two nonsurgical options that we recommend—Jawline Filler and Masseter Botox, which are oftentimes used in combination with one another to achieve the best look possible.

Jawline Filler for Contouring and Definition

Jawline filler uses hyaluronic acid-based fillers to add volume along the jawline, creating a sharper, more defined jaw angle that enhances the profile. By precisely injecting filler in key areas, our licensed doctors at Dallas Dermatology Partners can add structure and refine contours to give your jawline a more balanced, youthful look.

How Jawline Filler Can Improve Aesthetics

  1. Replace Volume Lost Due to Aging
Over time, the natural aging process leads to volume loss, which can result in sagging and the appearance of jowls along the jawline. Filler can restore this lost volume, creating a smoother, more lifted look while reducing signs of aging.
  2. Create a Masculine, Chiseled Jawline
For men or anyone desiring a strong, angular look, fillers can be strategically placed to enhance a chiseled, masculine jawline. This approach emphasizes sharpness and strength along the jawline, delivering a bold, sculpted profile.
  3. Soften for a Feminine Jawline
Those who prefer a softer, more feminine look can benefit from fillers as well. Using a lighter touch, our injectors can create subtle curves and a gently contoured jawline that enhances femininity without harsh angles.
  4. Correct Jawline Asymmetries
Filler can also correct natural asymmetries in the jaw, balancing uneven lines and improving facial harmony. This targeted treatment smooths out irregularities to create a cohesive, well-aligned look.

Filler results can last for up to one year, making them a more effective long-term treatment compared to botox. If you’re interested in learning more about getting jaw filler in Dallas, please contact us at Dallas Dermatology Partners today.

Masseter Botox for Jawline Sculpting

Masseter Botox targets the masseter muscle, which is responsible for chewing and jaw clenching. For those who have a wider jawline due to overdeveloped masseter muscles, Masseter Botox injections can slim and refine the lower face, creating a more V-shaped appearance. By relaxing this muscle, Masseter Botox not only sculpts the jawline but also helps with conditions like TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) and can reduce jaw tension and discomfort.

If you’re interested in getting Masseter Botox in Dallas, please contact our today to make an appointment. We’ll answer any questions you might have and create a plan that best serves your needs.

botox dysport for tmj masseter muscle

Try Using Both Treatments in Tandem

As mentioned above, for an even more snatched jawline, Masseter jawline Botox can be used in conjunction with jawline filler. This dual-approach sculpts and defines the jaw while reducing bulk from the masseter muscle, enhancing the overall contour and achieving an optimal, balanced look. Combining these treatments offers a highly customizable solution for jawline contouring.

Who is a Good Candidate for Jawline Sculpting?

Injectable jawline sculpting is suitable for both men and women who want to enhance their jawline’s definition or address signs of aging like volume loss and sagging. Whether you desire a more masculine, structured jaw or a softer, contoured profile, these treatments offer a flexible approach.
During your consultation at Dallas Dermatology Partners, our experts will assess your facial anatomy and discuss your preferences to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Contact Us Today. Because You Deserve to Love the Way You Look.

It’s time to invest in yourself so you can feel confident in your body. You’re just one click away from making your snatched jawline a reality. Book a Dallas dermatology appointment with us today to discuss how jawline filler or Masseter Botox can help you achieve the look you desire.

Can Botox Make Your Face Look Lifted? Here’s How It Works

The short answer is: yes, Botox, a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, can indeed help lift and reshape certain areas of your face, giving you a natural, yet noticeable, lift. Before moving forward with any type of treatment, our seasoned physicians at Dallas Dermatology want our patients to be well-informed about the process and what they can expect.

Botox: A Popular Way to Get a Lift

In 2002, the FDA approved Botox for the cosmetic treatment of:

It quickly became the top-selling treatment of its kind with 100 million vials sold across 98 countries.

Over 4.7 million Americans received Botox injections to achieve a more youthful, lifted, and refreshed appearance in 2023. Technological advancements and the desire for minimal downtime is behind the treatment’s 6% year-over-year increase, according to the American Society for Plastic Surgeons.

How Botox Works to Lift the Face

Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles and fine lines. By strategically targeting specific muscles, Botox prevents muscle contractions that pull the skin downward. This relaxation effect allows the skin to naturally lift and smooth, creating a more youthful and elevated appearance.

On the other hand, if Botox is placed incorrectly or at the wrong dose, it can actually have the opposite effect and cause dropping of the forehead and face. For the best results, it’s crucial to receive Botox treatments from skilled professionals who understand the nuances of facial anatomy. The expert physicians at Dallas Dermatology Partners are renowned for their expertise in administering Botox injections.

“Our commitment to cutting-edge, collaborative, and compassionate skincare ensures that each treatment is personalized to lift and enhance your natural features.” – Dallas Dermatology Partners

Common Botox Injection Sites for a Lifted Look

Botox can effectively lift the face through a:

  • Brow lift: Injecting Botox into the corrugator and procerus muscles just above the brow and the orbicularis muscle at the tail of the brow relaxes the muscles that cause furrows between the eyes and the muscles around the eyes, creating a lifted and refreshed appearance.
  • Nefertiti lift: Botox can be injected into the platysma muscles along the jawline and neck. By relaxing these muscles, the treatment helps define youthful jaw contours and lift the neck.
  • Lip flip: To subtly evert the lip, Botox can be placed into the orbicularis oris muscle along the lip border, subtly enhancing your natural expression and giving your lips a softly plumped appearance.
  • Correct downturned mouth corners: To address drooping corners of the mouth and lower face frown lines, a cosmetic dermatologist can place Botox into the depressor anguli oris muscles, subtly enhancing your natural expression and smile.

Moxi Laser for Melasma

Melasma can cause significant emotional distress. This skin condition is common, especially among women who are pregnant. For years, dermatologists have typically avoided recommending laser skin treatments, as they can worsen melasma and other forms of hyperpigmentation. However, the Moxi laser treatment is different. Consider talking to a dermatology provider to find out if it might be right for your skin condition.

What is Moxi laser treatment and how does it work?

Moxi is one of the latest laser treatments available from Sciton, the innovative maker of other effective laser treatments like Halo and BBL. Moxi is a fractionated laser that delivers low-level, non-ablative energy to the skin. In other words, it’s a gentle treatment that provides a comfortable experience–with dramatic results.

The Moxi laser works by creating microdamage in the targeted areas. The microdamage stimulates the skin to generate collagen and increase cell turnover, providing a rejuvenating effect.

moxi laser for melasma before and after
Moxi for Melasma Before & After

Why is Moxi laser treatment appropriate for melasma?

As noted, most laser skin resurfacing treatments are not appropriate for patients with melasma. However, the Moxi is designed for all skin tones and types, including skin with hyperpigmentation because of its temperature. Moxi doesn’t produce the high levels of heat that many other cosmetic lasers do, which means it won’t inadvertently worsen skin conditions.

In addition to being an effective melasma treatment, it also offers other cosmetic benefits. It’s appropriate for patients interested in anti-aging benefits, including those already seeing signs of aging and interested in prejuvenation (preventive anti-aging treatments). Since this laser treatment triggers collagen formation, it can help delay the formation of lines and wrinkles, as well as address wrinkles already there.

What can I expect from Moxi laser treatment?

Moxi laser treatments take about 15 minutes to perform (full face treatment area), although there will be some minimal prep time, as well. Unlike more aggressive laser treatments, the Moxi is so gentle that there is little to no downtime. Your face may look a little puffy and feel a little rough, but these side effects will dissipate quickly. After it heals, your skin will look noticeably brighter, healthier, and rejuvenated, with reduced hyperpigmentation. Although you’ll see some results immediately, you may need two to three treatments to achieve your desired look.
