Melanage Peel

A Melanage peel is an effective treatment for stubborn pigmentation and medium depth melasma. It is one of our preferred brightening systems at Dallas Dermatology Partners and is safe for all skin tones.

This chemical peel can be administered full-strength, requiring a few days of downtime to allow skin peeling and recovery. We also offer the mini Melanage peel, which targets skin discoloration, but results in less redness, flaking, and downtime.

What is a Melanage Peel?

The Melanage peel and mini peel have two components: an invisi-masque applied by our dermatologists and a medical-grade regimen that is taken home. Both systems are designed to improve the appearance of photo-aged skin, and they are particularly adept at treating melasma, which rarely responds to lasers. The Melanage mini peel is not as concentrated and is suitable for the neck and chest, as well as the face.

How Does the Melanage System Work?

The Melanage skin lightening system contains prescription-strength acids and retinoids that treat pigmentation problems and expedite cellular turnover. These ingredients pull hyperpigmented cells to the skin’s surface, where they are sloughed off to reveal radiant, even-toned skin.

A Melanage peel is freshly compounded and applied as a mask. Depending on your concerns and the type of peel, the mask will stay on the skin for 2-7 hours. All patients are provided a specific and easy-to-follow regimen to take home that includes moisturizers and other skincare actives.

After the at-home portion of the Melanage system, patients will return to our office for a follow-up appointment.

What Conditions Does the Peel Treat?

The Melanage peel and mini peel provide significant improvements in the appearance of:

  • Sunspots and age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma-- whether caused by hormones, medication, or genetics
  • Rough skin texture
  • Large pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull complexion
  • Fine lines

What Should I Expect from a Melanage Chemical Peel Treatment?

The Melanage peel is not uncomfortable. However, it may produce a tingling sensation, and it is not unusual for the skin to feel tight and sunburned afterward. Patients who have the full-strength peel can expect peeling to start on the second or third day and continue for several days. The skin may look slightly pink for up to 2 weeks. After the exfoliation and peeling are complete, patients will notice clearer, brighter, and more evenly toned skin.

How Do I Maintain Results?

The easiest way to keep your baby-soft, glowing skin free of dark spots and hyperpigmentation is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) every day, rain, or shine. UV radiation is the primary culprit behind freckles, age spots, and blotchy skin.

Our dermatologists may also recommend some medical-grade skincare products that will enhance the results of your chemical peel.

Those with stubborn dark spots may benefit from a series of mini Melanage peels scheduled 4 weeks apart. An effective melasma treatment in Dallas is the full-strength Melanage peel, which can last one year or more.
