Can Fillers Fix Sagging Jowls?

The gradual loss of facial volume and skin elasticity are a natural part of aging. If you’ve noticed your jawline drooping prematurely, rest assured that you are not alone. Many men and women are genetically predisposed to developing jowls in mid-life.

If you want to minimize the appearance of mild to moderate jowls, dermal fillers are an excellent, non-surgical solution. Injected in key areas of the lower face, fillers add volume beneath the skin while adding definition to sagging jawlines.

Fillers for Sagging Jowls

Fillers for the lower face work by replenishing the skin’s own supply of hyaluronic acid. It binds to water molecules to give skin that plump, youthful look. Many of our patients who get cheek filler for jowls are impressed by the immediate, natural-looking results. Once injected, HA-based fillers recreate lost structure, counteract skin hollowness, and gently contour drooping jowls.

Dallas Dermatology Partners is thrilled to offer non-surgical jawline lifting and different fillers to help patients achieve their goals. Some of the most effective injectables include Juvéderm Voluma XC, Juvéderm Ultra XC, and Restylane Defyne. Like the Juvéderm family of fillers, Restylane is composed of hyaluronic acid.

Your dermatologist can determine the best filler to lift jowls depending on your skin laxity, problem areas, and aesthetic goals.

Sculptra Filler in Cheeks to Lift Jowls

Sculptra is another type of filler that restores volume– it is made of Poly-L-lactic that stimulates collagen production. It addresses laxity and crepiness while lifting the cheeks and lower face.

The choice between hyaluronic acid fillers and Sculptra for lifting jowls typically boils down to the amount of volume restoration needed, your age, and the desired longevity of results. Depending on the products used, results can last anywhere from 12 months to 2+ years.

Filler for Jowls: Pre-Treatment Tips

It’s best to stop taking the following supplements one week before your filler treatment, as they have a blood-thinning effect.

  • Aspirin
  • Naproxyn
  • Ibuprofen
  • Vitamin E
  • Fish oil supplements
  • Gingko Biloba and Ginseng

A topical numbing cream may be applied during the procedure to increase comfort, but the entire treatment takes less than 25 minutes.

What to Expect Afterwards

Mild tenderness is to be expected after jowl filler treatment. Patients can resume normal activities, though it’s best to avoid strenuous exercise for a day or two. Minor bruising is normal, but this usually resolves along with residual swelling in a few days.

Instant results are one of the main benefits of filler for jowls here in our Dallas office. Within minutes, patients see a noticeable lift in the lower face and a more sculpted jawline. If Sculptra were used, the results would continue to improve over the following months as the body ramps up collagen production.

Is Microneedling Better than Botox?

When it comes to anti-aging treatments that are minimally invasive yet effective, you may be wondering which is better: microneedling or Botox? Because both treatments work differently and address separate concerns that occasionally overlap, the answer is wholly dependent on the health of your skin and aesthetic goals. We typically recommend combination treatments with both neuromodulator, such as Botox or Dysport, and microneedling to achieve the best results.

Whether you want to banish wrinkles, tighten skin, or correct years of cumulative sun damage, you’ll find personalized treatment plans at Dallas Dermatology Partners. In the meantime, let’s explore how microneedling and Botox treatments work– —with their advantages and drawbacks.

Microneedling vs. Botox

To appreciate the benefits of Botox vs. microneedling, it’s important to understand the basics of each treatment.

Microneedling rejuvenates by creating tiny punctures in the superficial layers of the skin that activate the body to produce collagen and elastin. Blood flow is enhanced as the skin renews itself, producing a smoother, tighter, and more radiant complexion. On the other hand, Botox relaxes the muscles that cause the undesired lines and thus provides a more youthful appearance and prevents the lines from worsening over time.

Our experienced, board-certified dermatologists can help you get the best results with microneedling treatment in Dallas since the procedure is tailored to accommodate a wide range of concerns.

Collage PIN microneedling can improve the appearance of large pores, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and rough texture. It can also help minimize fine lines and wrinkles that come with UV exposure and the aging process. Consider the benefits of microneedling over Botox injections:

  • Addresses more than wrinkles and lines
  • Less invasive
  • Fewer side effects
  • Minimal downtime
  • Quick yet natural-looking results

Microneedling treatments are generally spaced one month apart, which allows time for cell renewal. However, if sagging cheeks and jowls are your main issue, ask our staff about RF microneedling treatment in Dallas, which has the added skin-tightening benefit of radiofrequency energy.

How does Botox Compare to Microneedling?

Botox is an excellent solution for treating a specific kind of wrinkle that can make you appear older than your years. It temporarily stops muscle activity to treat dynamic wrinkles– those lines that develop from repeated facial expressions. Think crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and those worry lines or “11’s” between your eyebrows.

For a more youthful, refreshed appearance, a Botox treatment in Dallas can work wonders, but it does have some limitations. For example, Botox does not help improve texture, skin laxity, or pore size, as it only works on relaxing muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. In addition, we recommend repeat injections every 3-6 months to maintain the results from your Botox procedure.

Microneedling and Botox Can Complement Each Other

Some patients may benefit from Botox and microneedling to target multiple skin concerns. While these non-surgical procedures can produce outstanding results in terms of skin rejuvenation, your dermatologist can determine a treatment plan and timeline that is appropriate for your needs. Call today to book your Dallas dermatology appointment.

How Dermatologists Can Improve Skin Tone and Treat Summer Hyperpigmentation

Summertime means lazy beach days and long afternoons by the pool; however you don’t have to be a dedicated sunbather to experience skin damage from UV rays. Summer hyperpigmentation spots– dark patches that stem from an inflammatory process– can last for quite some time without proper intervention.

Reverse Summer Sun Damage

In most cases, sun spots, patches of discoloration, and freckles aren’t dangerous, but they can wreak havoc on your complexion and skin tone. At-home products can only do so much for these imperfections, which is why it’s important to seek hyperpigmentation treatment from a certified dermatologist.

From potent chemical peels to BBL photofacials, these professional-grade treatments can improve skin tone and reverse post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that has been caused or exacerbated by sun exposure.

Chemical Peels

When it comes to correcting blotchy and uneven skin tone, chemical peels are an excellent solution, and most entail little to no downtime. They can be applied to the face, neck, décolletage, and hands and are tailored in strength and actives according to skin type and aesthetic goals.

At Dallas Dermatology, we offer glycolic acid peels and VI peels, which combine a blend of powerful anti-aging acids and antioxidants that exfoliate the surface and deeper layers of the epidermis. By removing the dead and damaged skin cells, a more luminous and even-toned complexion emerges.

Glycolic peels are great for treating photo-aged sensitive skin, and stronger VI peels target melasma, sun spots, and areas of stubborn hyperpigmentation.

Genius Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling has been shown to improve skin tone and mild hyperpigmentation in patients of all skin tones. Depending on the extent and depth of the sun damage, patients may see improvements in as little as one treatment, though a series of 3 sessions may produce optimal results. RF microneedling penetrates deeper into the dermis than conventional microneedling, and has the added advantage of tightening loose and sagging skin around the jowls and neckline. Studies have also demonstrated that Genius microneedling can be an effective adjunct to non-ablative lasers for treating mild to moderate melasma – a common pigmentary condition in middle-aged women.

BBL Therapy

An BBL (BroadBand Light) Photofacial is an in-office procedure that improves the appearance of brown spots, freckles, darker discoloration, and other signs of sun-damaged skin. This cutting-edge treatment uses light waves to penetrate the dermis, where pigment cells absorb the energy and are destroyed. Each session lasts about 30 minutes, and optimal results are usually seen after several BBL treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. An added benefit of it is firmer skin since it triggers collagen remodeling.

Laser Resurfacing

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is often joined by fine lines and wrinkles, especially in middle-aged patients with a long history of repeated sun exposure. In some cases, we may recommend a resurfacing treatment with the Icon 1540 non-ablative laser. This procedure is suitable for all skin tones and works by delivering targeted thermal energy to dermal tissue. With laser resurfacing, patients will note significant improvements in skin tone, texture, and clarity after two to three treatments.

After any hyperpigmentation treatment, a quality skincare regimen and daily protection with a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 35+ or higher) are critical to maintaining results.

Dallas Hyperpigmentation Treatment Dermatologist

Hyperpigmentation manifests in different ways, and no two patients are the same. For this reason, our dermatologists develop personalized treatment plans that consider your age, skin type, concerns, and expectations.

For customized hyperpigmentation face treatment that improves skin tone, texture, and radiance, book your Dallas dermatology appointment with Dallas Dermatology Partners. Our practice is centrally located to residents throughout Frisco, Plano, Addison, and the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

How to Get Rid of Cystic Acne According To A Dermatologist

Cystic acne can seriously impact self-esteem. Characterized by inflammation deep in the skin, these large cysts are painful. If ignored, it can take weeks to disappear and may even leave behind scars. If you’re looking for effective cystic acne treatment, read on to find out what dermatologists recommend to target the cause and prevent future breakouts.

What is Cystic Acne?

Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne that causes tender, fluid-filled cysts to form deep under the skin. Unlike pimples that contain a core of dead skin cells and pus, cystic acne cannot be popped, and any picking will usually cause trauma, more inflammation, and scarring.

Cystic acne typically shows up on the face but can also develop on the shoulders, chest, back, and neck. An acne cyst starts as a tender bump under the skin and may resemble a boil. These oil and bacteria-filled cysts will grow bigger and more inflamed over time. Therefore, early treatment is crucial when it comes to helping the skin recover.

What Causes Cystic Acne?

There is no single cause of cystic acne, but like all types of blemishes, the problem starts with a clogged pore. When dead skin cells, bacteria, and oils get trapped in the sebaceous glands, the result is inflammation and a tender, infected lump. In addition, certain cosmetics and skincare products can clog pores, increasing the chances of a flare-up.

Genetics is another factor to consider. If your parents and older siblings had cystic acne at some point, there is a high likelihood that you will also develop it.

Perhaps the biggest culprit for cystic acne breakouts is fluctuating hormones. Surges in testosterone and estrogen during puberty can cause cystic acne, as can hormonal changes during pregnancy, menstrual cycles, and menopause. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) creates excess androgen hormones that can also cause it.

It is not caused by poor dietary choices, though some foods may trigger inflammation more than others. If you notice a link between certain meals and acne breakouts, let your dermatologist know.

How to Treat Cystic Acne?

Home remedies and over-the-counter products are rarely effective for managing cystic acne. So, if you’ve tried everything and are wondering how to get rid of it, it’s time to see a board-certified dermatologist who can prescribe a personalized treatment plan.

There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for it. Instead, your dermatologist will determine the best course of action after determining the underlying causes of your acne.

A cystic acne treatment plan may incorporate one or several of these therapies:

  • Prescription antibiotics such as doxycycline taken orally to address infection and inflammation
  • Corticosteroid injections that quickly shrink cysts
  • Spironolactone oral medication to clear up hormone-related cystic acne
  • Oral retinoids to reduce oil gland secretions
  • Birth control pills to regulate hormones that trigger acne cysts
  • Topical retinoid creams or gels to encourage skin exfoliation

The Best Cosmetic Anti-Aging Treatments to Ask Your Dermatologist About

Thanks to significant advances in dermatology and non-invasive techniques, it’s easier than ever to look fresh and rested at virtually any age. If you’re looking for the best anti-aging cosmetic procedures, you’ve come to the right place. At Dallas Dermatology Partners, we offer a number of non-surgical, minimally invasive procedures that entail little if any downtime.

Banish wrinkles, plump up cheeks, and tighten up sagging jowls without the nip and tuck. Here’s a round-up of our top anti-aging procedures that deliver natural yet appreciable results.

Botox Injections

Do permanently etched worry lines and forehead furrows make you look older than your years? Repetitive facial expressions, along with skin laxity and lifestyle factors, create fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, brows, and forehead. Botox is one of the most popular ways to turn back the clock with a few targeted injections. By stopping muscle contractions, this injectable softens wrinkles, and the results can last upwards of 4 months.

Chemical Peels

Looking for instant gratification and soft, dewy skin? Medical grade chemical peels are a safe and excellent way to brighten your complexion, lighten sun spots, and smooth out rough texture. Our dermatologists offer several types of peels– ranging from superficial to medium-strength– that are formulated to address your specific issues. Professional peels restore a more even skin tone as they rejuvenate mature and photo-aged skin.

Fractionated Laser Resurfacing

Laser treatments gently heat the dermis, creating micro-injuries that trigger the collagen remodeling process. The Palomar Icon 1540 is a non-ablative laser resurfacing procedure that fades hyperpigmentation, treats shallow acne scars, and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion

Subtle cosmetic treatments like microdermabrasion are an effective way to achieve fresher, more youthful-looking skin. Deep exfoliation with the DiamondGlow™ hydrodermabrasion system is safe for the most sensitive skin. It works wonders on improving the appearance of age spots, enlarged pores, fine lines, blackheads, and acne scarring.

Genius RF Microneedling

Microneedling has been used by dermatologists for years to trigger the body’s self-repair mechanism for firmer, glowing skin. The latest iteration of this non-surgical skin rejuvenator is the Genius RF system that introduces radiofrequency energy. Genius RF microneedling is more effective at stimulating collagen and elastic synthesis for tighter and youthful looking skin. The treatment helps diminish fine lines, acne scars, and textural irregularities. It also enhances the efficacy of anti-aging topical products like retinoids and glycolic acid. Sometimes called “microneedling with a brain,” the Genius device has an intelligent hand piece that monitors energy levels as its passes over the skin. This allows dermatologists to customize the treatment for superior results.

BBL Photofacial

The best candidates for an BBL photofacial are those with light to fair skin, who are less prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This popular anti-aging procedure corrects a variety of skin concerns, from sunspots and enlarged pores to broken capillaries and general blotchiness.

Dermal Fillers

With time, the skin becomes thinner, less elastic, and loses volume, making wrinkles and lines more noticeable. Along with Botox injections, dermal fillers are a non-invasive way to rejuvenate the face and restore youthful contours around the cheeks, chin, and eyes. Depending on the type of fillers used, the results can last anywhere from 6-18 months.

Anti-Aging Treatment Consultation in Dallas

Whether it’s hyperpigmentation, volume loss, or crow’s feet, there’s a treatment for virtually any skin concern– and many can be done during your lunch break. For more information about anti-aging cosmetic procedures, book your Dallas dermatology appointment online, or give us a call.

How Can I Make My Fillers Last Longer?

Dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Sculptra are among the most popular anti-aging treatments today. They smooth creases and restore volume for a fresh, rested appearance. By plumping the skin with hydrating or collagen-boosting molecules, fillers can correct smile lines, deep nasolabial folds, under-eye troughs, or provide a natural– yet sultry– looking pout. While the results of cosmetic injectables are virtually immediate, they don’t last forever.

Many factors affect the longevity of your dermal filler treatment. Some products are designed to last longer than others, and your metabolism will also have an impact. Even the location of the filler will make a difference– areas with more muscle movement will break down the product faster.

For example, Voluma® XC is designed to lift the cheeks for up to two full years, while lip filler with Restylane will last around six months. Contact us at Dallas Dermatology Partners if you have any questions or concerns.

Filler Maintenance Tips

As a trusted provider of dermal fillers in Dallas, we offer the following tips on maximizing the longevity of your results.

#1 Schedule Touch-Up Appointments in Advance

The best way to increase the lifespan of your filler results is by booking maintenance appointments in advance before the filler wears off completely. Your dermatologist will recommend an appropriate timeline based on the location, amount, and type of filler used and suggest touch-ups accordingly. It’s much more cost-effective than starting from scratch, and regularly scheduled injections will ensure the rejuvenating effect you love– isn’t lost entirely.

#2 Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure

It’s no secret that UV radiation is detrimental to skin elasticity and appearance, causing wrinkles, age spots, and rough texture. The sun’s rays can also speed up the breakdown of facial filler molecules. So, if you’re going to be outside, slather the skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen, and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

#3 Adopt a Good Skincare Regime

Glowing, hydrated skin radiates good health and youthfulness. After your filler injections, ask your dermatologist for medical-grade skincare products that are suitable for your age, skin type, and concerns. Products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, and other potent actives work in tandem with fillers for a rejuvenating effect.

#4 Find Ways to Reduce Stress

Stress is often unavoidable but try and find ways to avoid usual triggers that tell your body to produce cortisol– a stress hormone that accelerates signs of aging. Whether it’s HIIT, yoga, or a weekly massage, stress-relieving techniques will relax your mind, soften your expressions, and may extend the life of fillers.

#5 Drink More Water

If you have a hyaluronic acid-based filler like those in the Juvederm or Restylane family, then drink up. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules, so it stands to reason that hydrated skin can enhance the effect of HA fillers. You can also ramp up water intake by incorporating more fruits and vegetables like watermelon and leafy greens into your diet.

Can You Get Rid of Cellulite?

Women are much more prone than men to develop cellulite, which develops when connective cords that tether the skin to muscle pull down or stretch, pushing underlying fat cells against the skin. The result is a puckered or dimpled appearance that typically shows up on the buttocks and outer thighs.

While there is a genetic component to cellulite, there is no single cause. However, as producers of the fat-storing hormone estrogen, over 90 percent of women are predisposed to this common problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re heavy or thin, exercise daily, or adhere to a strict vegan diet– you can develop these pesky dimples on the lower body– and there’s no shame in wanting to get rid of it.

If cellulite on the thighs and buttocks is bothersome, you’re not alone. Can you get rid of cellulite completely? Unfortunately, no. But there are some effective, non-surgical procedures, such as QWO, at Dallas Dermatology Partners that can reduce it and improve the appearance of puckered and uneven skin.

cellulite on thighs and butt

Cellulite treatment for legs & buttocks

Diet and exercise have their place but do little for smoothing contour irregularities on the buttocks and legs caused by dense fibrous bands. For a smoother derriere, we turn to QWO (Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum) — the first FDA-approved injectable to treat moderate to severe cellulite. Our dermatologists are thrilled to offer QWO cellulite treatment to minimize contour irregularities on the buttocks and upper thighs.

before and after qwo

How does QWO reduce cellulite?

QWO contains two powerful enzymes that break down the collagen fibers in the septae (fibrous bands) that produce the dimpled appearance of cellulite. These enzymes also stimulate collagen production that improves the integrity and smoothness of the skin.

The injections feel like a bee-sting and take around 15 minutes. There is little to no downtime, and optimal results are seen after 3 treatments, spaced 21 days apart. Bruising, redness, and tenderness are the most common side effects of QWO cellulite treatment for thighs and buttocks.

Ideal candidates for QWO treatment

Our board-certified dermatologists know how to treat cellulite on legs and buttocks and can determine the best candidates for QWO injections. Generally speaking, those with pronounced dimples caused by fibrous strands rather than loose skin are good candidates for this non-invasive treatment.

Skin laxity vs. cellulite

The injectable does not address skin laxity that can mimic the wavy appearance of cellulite. How do you differentiate between age-related loose skin and true cellulite? Lift the skin from the indentation or depression. If the dimple disappears, it is not cellulite.

If skin laxity is the issue, our dermatologists can address this with Genius RF microneedling that combines the benefits of traditional microneedling with fractional radiofrequency energy. In fact, microneedling for tightening skin is safe, non-surgical, and produces noticeable results within a few sessions.

Non-invasive cellulite treatment in Dallas

Best Treatments for Sun Damaged Skin

Every time you go outside without a full-spectrum sunscreen, the skin is bombarded by UV rays. They alter DNA and gradually break down collagen and elastin. Over time, this solar radiation causes serious damage to the epidermis while depleting essential fatty acids.

While many think of bronzed skin as a sign of vitality and good health, it’s a form of mild sun damage. Cumulative exposure to UV rays causes premature aging of the skin– resulting in dark spots, spider veins, fine lines, a ruddy complexion, sagging skin, and hyperpigmentation.

At Dallas Dermatology Partners, we offer a variety of non-invasive procedures to repair and rejuvenate photo-aged skin with minimal downtime. If you’re 25 or 55, it’s never too late to improve the health and radiance of your skin. Correct irregular pigmentation, rough texture, wrinkles, and other concerns with these non-invasive treatments for sun-damaged skin.

BBL Photo Facial for Sun Damaged Skin

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. An BBL photofacial is ideal for patients who want measurable results without a lot of downtime. This treatment uses multiple wavelengths of light to treat hyperpigmentation, broken blood vessels, large pores, and uneven skin tone. Temporary redness is the only side effect of this skin rejuvenation procedure that produces a more radiant, even-toned complexion.

Lasers

Our highly skilled dermatologists often recommend a laser resurfacing treatment for sun damage, whether on the face, neck, chest, or hands. Laser skin resurfacing can eliminate or improve the appearance of sunspots, melasma, fine lines, redness, and dull texture without a lengthy recovery. The Halo Laser  is more comfortable that traditional fractional lasers and can deliver impressive results in just one treatment.

Microneedling

Microneedling is one of the best treatments for sun-damaged skin and a terrific option for patients new to cosmetic dermatology. This 30-minute procedure utilizes a pen-like tool to make tiny pricks in the skin. In the coming days and weeks, collagen synthesis increases as the skin repairs itself and gradually becomes smoother and firmer. Microneedling is a cost-effective way to improve the appearance of wrinkles and sunspots.

Chemical Peel for Sun Damage

Chemical peels effectively correct irregular pigmentation, fine lines, and textural problems resulting from years of extended sun exposure. Typically, most patients will benefit from a series of 2-3 peels formulated with different acids to address specific complexion concerns. In addition, a chemical peel remedies summer skin damage by removing the outer layer of old skin cells.

Microdermabrasion

If bumpy, rough texture is your chief complaint, microdermabrasion promises dramatic results with virtually zero downtime. Unlike traditional microdermabrasion procedures that simply exfoliated, our practice features the DiamondGlow™ system that uses water to push potent actives and serums as it buffs away dull skin cells.

Genius RF Microneedling

RF microneedling is a more advanced version of microneedling that utilizes radiofrequency energy to address a number of concerns caused by UV exposure. Safe for patients with fair to dark skin tones, RF microneedling can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, chest, and other parts of the body to improve skin tone and minimize the appearance of scars, wrinkles and fine lines. The Genius microneedling radio frequency treatment tones and tightens photo-aged skin by boosting collagen and elastin production. While many patients see measurable improvements after the first session, most will benefit from a series of three treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

The Right Treatment for Your Skin Type

A board-certified dermatologist can improve the health of your skin and develop a treatment plan to help address age spots, wrinkling, laxity, actinic keratoses, and other signs of cumulative sun damage. Call today to book your Dallas dermatology appointment.

8 Cosmetic Treatments to Get During Winter

Winter is an ideal time to rejuvenate and refresh your skin with the help of Dallas Dermatology Partners. Whether you’re dealing with areas of post-summer hyperpigmentation or want to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, winter is the perfect time for cosmetic treatments. Many of these procedures require avoiding direct UV exposure, which can hamper healing or undermine the results.

With the holidays just around the corner and the days getting shorter and cooler, now is the time to consider these minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.

Top Winter Cosmetic Procedures

  • Chemical Peels can make you more prone to sunburn and hyperpigmentation, which is why these treatments are ideal during  winter. There are different types and strengths of chemical peels that can address common concerns such as melasma, sun spots, freckles, rough texture, uneven skin tone, and acne scars. Your objectives and skin type will dictate the potency and types of actives used.
  • Laser Resurfacing works wonders for triggering the body’s collagen production but leaves the skin vulnerable to UV radiation that can hamper healing. That’s why October through March is a smart time to schedule this anti-aging treatment. We offer non-ablative fractional laser treatments that improve the appearance of discoloration, fine lines, shallow acne scars, and textural irregularities.
  • Microdermabrasion can produce radiant, glowing skin with no downtime, but this professional exfoliation is better suited for cooler months when the sun’s rays are not as intense. This is because the stratum corneum– the skin’s outermost layer– is gently removed. Using the patented DiamondGlow™ device, our microdermabrasion procedure infuses nourishing, medical-grade products into the skin to help improve firmness, tone, and clarity.
  • Microneedling induces the skin’s self-repair mechanism and is useful for promoting smoother, more luminous, and youthful-looking skin. With repeated treatments, you can expect dramatic results in improving skin laxity, acne scars, and bumpy texture. Winter is the perfect time for this procedure since prolonged sun exposure after microneedling can cause hyper or hypopigmentation.
  • BBL Photofacial is the gold standard for treating sun-damaged skin, so it makes sense to have it done when more time is spent indoors and bundled up. Moreover, sun exposure after an IPL photofacial can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation, scarring, and other adverse results. This lunch-hour treatment uses intense pulsed light to improve skin discoloration, vascular redness, and wrinkles.
  • Genius RF Microneedling another non-invasive modality for skin rejuvenation in the fall, Genius microneedling has the added benefit of radiofrequency energy (RF) that is delivered at precise depths. The advantage of this cutting-edge technology lies in the long-term skin tightening effects. Like traditional microneedling, this treatment stimulates both collagen and elastin production to help address skin laxity. It can also improve the appearance of superficial acne scars, pore size, and fine lines. The super fine needles are coated for patient comfort and minimal trauma to the skin, which typically heals in 3-5 days.
  • Laser Hair Removal is most effective on fair, untanned skin. It is a safe and long-term solution for removing hair or thinning the growth of unwanted hair on the face, legs, arms, and bikini area. Because sun protection is crucial to achieving optimal results, this is an excellent winter cosmetic procedure.
  • Sclerotherapy Bothered by red veins on your legs? With sclerotherapy, a saline solution is injected into the spider veins, which eventually collapse and disappear. Since compression garments are mandatory for a week after the treatment, it’s best to schedule this during cooler weather.

Refresh Your Skin this Winter

Can Botox Help a Downturned Mouth?

Age and gravity can cause the mouth to turn downwards. In addition, the muscles responsible for tooth grinding can also cause premature drooping at the corners of the mouth. Fortunately, there is a safe and non-surgical solution to this common aesthetic concern– Botox. When injected into the Depressor Anguli Oris muscle, Botox lifts the corners of the mouth for a more neutral and pleasing “resting expression.”

Here at Dallas Dermatology Partners, we personalize Botox treatments to help patients achieve subtle, natural results. Restore your confidence along with the youthfulness of a cheerful lower face with high-quality dermatological care.

Botox for downturned mouth treatment

Botox injections may be appropriate for people whose mouth corners naturally drawdown at rest. This can also happen in younger patients with overactive Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscles. If you want to address this, Botox can work wonders. The neuromodulator works by temporarily relaxing the downward pulling action of the DAO muscle.

This simple outpatient procedure has no downtime and lasts less than 15 minutes. The injections are not particularly painful, but patients can request a topical numbing cream if they are anxious.

Your dermatologist will inject the DAO muscles on either side of the mouth using a very fine needle and then apply firm pressure with a gauze pad to stop bleeding.

What to expect after the procedure

Botox around the mouth is a lunch-hour treatment with little risk of adverse side effects or complications. Most of our patients return to work or normal activities with nothing more than some mild redness. Bruising may develop but is easily concealed with mineral powder. We ask that patients avoid lying down for 4 hours after the treatment.

A mouth corner lift with Botox is a surprisingly quick procedure, but the results aren’t immediate. Instead, expect to see subtle improvements over the following seven days, with maximum effect after two weeks. During your follow-up appointment, our Botox Dallas dermatologists will determine if additional injections are needed.

How long do results last?

Botox for a downturned mouth can last up to five months, but this is dependent on your age, metabolism, and the dosage given. The majority of patients find that Botox results tend to wear off after three or four months.
Depending on your concerns, Botox may be combined with complementary treatments like dermal fillers for optimal results—for example, Juvederm and Restylane. These may be used along with Botox to elevate the corners of your mouth.
