Kybella

Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance made by the gallbladder that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. It is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that eliminates fat cells in the submental area, more commonly known as a double chin, to enhance the profile. Submental fat is most often caused by genetics and is one of the most challenging places to contour without surgical intervention. Weight and hormonal fluctuations can also affect under chin fullness.

When injected into the adipose tissue beneath the chin, or another targeted area, Kybella destroys the walls of the fat cells. The dissolved fat becomes cellular debris that is gradually eliminated by the body’s circulatory and lymphatic systems over a matter of weeks. This results in a more sculpted and youthful chin profile. Once the targeted fat cells are destroyed, they cannot regenerate, making the procedure permanent. An added benefit of Kybella treatment is the skin retraction and tightening that follows.

The skin is cleaned and prepped with a topical numbing cream, then marked with a grid of dots to indicate exact injection sites. Most patients need 30-50 carefully placed injections. There is a slight burning sensation during the injections, but the entire procedure is over in less than 20 minutes.
