How Often Should You Get BBL Treatments?

As an ongoing skin rejuvenating therapy, BBL treatment is typically most effective when applied 3-5 times a year.

Broad Band Light (BBL) is a corrective phototherapy treatment that is gaining traction in cosmetic dermatology for good reason. This next-generation light energy treatment is designed to address a variety of skin conditions related to sun damage, aging, and acne — with little to no downtime. Dallas Dermatology Partners offers the latest and greatest technology, BBL Hero, which offers three times the power, four times the speed, and is much more comfortable compared to regular BBL.

At Dallas Dermatology Partners, BBL treatment produces outstanding results in patients who want to correct uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, redness, and other skin complaints. While Broad Band Light is an effective tool for both preventing and reversing signs of aging and UV exposure, it is not a one-time rejuvenating treatment.
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about BBL Hero treatment here at our practice.

How many BBL treatments do I need?

This is highly dependent on the nature and extent of your skin concerns and desired goals. Correcting extensive pigmented lesions may require more BBL treatments compared to improving rough skin texture. While BBL Hero offers three times the peak power of last-generation procedures, our dermatologists will usually recommend a minimum of three to five treatments. Medical research shows that regular BBL treatments actually change the gene expression pattern of skin cells to that of younger cells, resulting in an anti-aging effect.

How many BBL treatments per year are recommended?

We suggest at least three to four BBL treatments per year to achieve clearer, smoother, and younger-looking skin. The phototherapy is comfortable and effective at treating freckles, deep lesions, vascular abnormalities, sun spots, and mild acne scars. With each BBL laser treatment, skin quality is improved as collagen production ramps up.

Is one BBL treatment enough?

No, none of our patients will realize maximum benefits with a single BBL treatment. While some may be thrilled with initial improvements in skin tone and clarity, our dermatologists recommend at least three or four Broad Band Light therapy treatments for achieving radiant, healthy skin.

How long do BBL laser results last?

As long as you do three to four BBL treatments each year, the results will be long-lasting. Patients can maintain their vibrant glow by practicing good sunscreen habits (a mineral broad-spectrum sunblock is best) and limiting direct UV exposure.

How long after BBL laser will I see results?

Approximately two weeks after your BBL treatment, there are gradual improvements in tone, texture, and overall skin health. However, these initial results will also hinge on the phototherapy settings used.

How long do you have to wait between BBL treatments?

We generally recommend waiting 3 to 4 weeks between BBL Hero treatments, but in some cases it can be as short as 14 days.

Is BBL safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, the BBL Hero by Sciton is safe for most skin types, including dark or olive-toned skin. Please take advantage of a complimentary consultation with our aesthetician to see if BBL is right for you.
